It may be a sign of our times that over 20,000 people a month (20,870 to be
exact) search Google for a “spiritual awakening.”
Of course, you can achieve a spiritual awakening simply by decluttering your home and mind, examine your beliefs, take care of yourself, learn to let go; the list is endless.
However, nothing does it better than travel. We can learn a lot of those that have already returned from their travels somehow changed and used social media to express their awe.
Psychic World, has put out a list of the Top 20 by checking 164,594,628 hashtags.
Their research reveals that the most photogenic spiritual destination in the world, with 92,468,514 tags is Istanbul. At number 20 is Montserrat in Spain well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary.
Perhaps Istanbul’s top spot is thanks to the city’s status as being a major religious centre for both Greek Orthodox and the Islamic faith, Istanbul is home to one of the world’s most important cultural heritages Spiritual highlights include: Suleymaniye Mosque, Hagia Sophia Museum/Church and the Blue Mosque.
Es Vedrà is a small rocky island off the southwestern seaboard of the Spanish island of Ibiza. The island, which is 413 metres tall, is part of the Cala d’Hort nature reserve. Es Vedrà is famous for being home to nymphs and sirens and for being the most magnetic place in the world.
At spot 3 is Japan’s iconic Kyoto, with 15,417,174 tags. It’s the most technologically advanced location in the world yet has a powerful connection to its ancient heritage and deep spiritual traditions especially in Kyoto. Spiritual highlights include Nanzen-ji and Ginkaku-ji. Not to mention the infamous Kiyomizu-dera temple.
